A Touch of Destiny
December 6, 2009
Two friends of mine met today for the first time. Both are people I’ve known for a couple of years. Both are people I met in the same way at the same place. But they had never met each other.
When I got up this morning, I decided to go to my local coffee shop and have breakfast. I intended to leave the apartment as soon as I got dressed, but this or that stopped me. Finally, the urge to leave got strong enough that I got my coat and shoes on and left.
One of my friends was on his way to work out. He had decided he wasn’t going to stop at the coffee shop at all. He actually drove right on by it. Then something made him turn around and come back. He was there when I arrived, and had been there just a few moments ahead of me.
My other friend was at home taking care of home things not thinking about coming to the coffee shop at all. Out of the blue, the idea to go pick up a pound of coffee hit her. So, she came to the coffee shop.
Had I not been there, they would have passed each other as strangers. Perhaps a nod of the head or good morning exchanged in passing, but nothing more. Because I was there, they met and she was able to offer him a message he needed to hear and was ready to hear. It was a message about loving yourself enough to hear what your body is telling you through pain and/or illness – in his case some dental issues. It was a strong message for him and one he will contemplate and try to incorporate into his being – he’s that kind of man. It was the kind of message she is very good at delivering. My job was simply to be in the right place at the right time – a touch of destiny – so that their meeting could be facilitated.
All three of us were living in the present moment. We were listening to that still small voice and allowing it to guide us. It was a powerful moment in time, a powerful lesson in living presently and consciously.
It also gave me a refresher course in the humility of the fact that we are all here to serve each other, to help each other expand consciously and grow spiritually. We are all gifts to each other.
