Hearing the Inner Voice

May 5, 2011

A friend of mine told me about a method she had recently experienced for hearing her inner voice, or as she referred to it, the voice of God.  We sat down facing each other and she asked me a series of three questions, to which I was to just ‘hear” the first thing that came to me.  I was both surprised, and affirmed by the answer that came immediately to each question.  The first question was:

What game do you want to play with me?

The immediate response was Psychic Cards.  And after the response came, I laughed, because it was as though I was asking Spirit to play a game with me, and it was more than willing to comply!  The energy around the question wasn’t heavy, it was light and sparkly.

The second question was:

Why?

One of my all-time favorite questions!  And the immediate answer was, It’s your calling.  Wow.  The answer felt affirming.  It’s a message I’ve been getting for quite some time, and one on which I’ve been acting.  Still.  To “hear” that answer with such immediacy told me the message has sunk into me.  I’m not fighting it anymore.

The last question was:

Why do you love most about me?

The immediate response was, Your compassion and empathy.

Answers without thought – first impressions – first instincts – hearing the inner voice – hearing the voice of Spirit, whatever you might want to call the things I got from the game, there was a consistent message.  I’m on the right path, and I believe in the path.

I think this series of questions could easily work sitting in front of a mirror and asking them to yourself out loud – especially if you do it in the spirit of a game, rather than with the seriousness of an “exercise” or “assignment.”  If you don’t think you can maintain the levity doing it on your own, drag a good friend into the game, and see what you both come up with.  Then tell us what you’re thoughts are about it, even if you don’t want to share your specific answers.

And come follow us on Twitter!  We tweet and retweet pretty regularly (translated means daily or so)!

  1. I use a similar technique when doing intuitive readings for clients. I believe the most difficult part of hearing your inner voice or from Divine Source is getting past our minds and over thinking every thing. It’s the business of the world we live in. I’m currently teaching women to get beyond the mind and reach a higher self. It’s that perfect connection that brings peace and creativity.

    • Kellie – the biggest thing for me was that it didn’t “feel” serious. It felt light hearted, which was disarming. I think that’s why I found it so easy to do. :)

  2. I couldn’t agree more! The most difficult part of following our instincts is not hearing the universe speak to us — it’s figuring out how to listen.

I may have to steal this exercise-not-exercise and try it on my own sometime. Thanks for the nudge!

    • I’m going to give it a try, too.
