Do Cat’s Temperaments Reflect Our Own?

September 29, 2011

Menzie

Cats have their own unique personalities, much like people do.  Some are chatters, some are moaners, some whine, others don’t talk at all.  Some are affectionate, and some prefer to demand attention on their own terms.  Not unlike their humans.

Cats are also animals of imitation.  They will mimic the behavior of their human.  I once had a cat that would Read the rest of this entry ?

What Would Happen if You Said “YES!” More Often?

“Are you coming back?” the barista asked me yesterday afternoon as I left my local coffee shop to go to dinner with friend.  “Maybe,” I replied with a smile.

Something  inside me said, “Yes!” when she asked.  And I had to admit, coming back to hang out for a while sounded like a great option.  So, after dinner, I came back and sat at the bar with my netbook, planning to work on this post.  At the time, I had no idea what I was going to write about.  As it turned out, I didn’t have a chance to even consider writing until almost 10pm.  Why?  Well, read on. A Dissident Daughter

In The Dance of the Dissident Daughter Sue Monk Kidd describes her journey of embracing the sacred feminine – recognizing the feminine aspect of God in fullness of divinity, not as a secondary aspect.

She comes to believe that, “exclusive male imagery of the divine not only instilled an imbalance within human consciousness, it legitimized patriarchal power in the culture at large.”  She examines this from her own perspective and includes references from scholars and other writers. She embraces the vision to restore dignity, value and power to women that a patriarchal society tends to diminish consistently and subtly. Read the rest of this entry ?

Advice for Friends

Friendship

I recently ran across Scott Grossberg’s blog.  It’s an incredibly positive and affirming blog.  Most recently it was about giving advice to friends, only it had a twist (click the link above to read the actual blog post.).

The blog asked that the reader think of 5 friends and then write down what advice you’d give each friend that would make their lives better.  So, I wrote the following: Read the rest of this entry ?

A Decade is Coming to an End

August 4, 2011

In less than 6 weeks, I’ll be 49 and I’m not quite as upbeat about it as Rebecca was about her birthday!  The decade of my 40’s is coming to a rapid end, and it feels….. strange.  I don’t look in the mirror and see a woman that age.  I see the girl I was in my 20’s or 30’s.  Sure, I see the lines that are starting to develop around my eyes, but I also remember being in college and freaking out with a friend as we found the very first line on our faces in the huge mirror of the girl’s dormitory bathroom.

I don’t feel almost 50.  Well, ok, most of the time I don’t.  As I sit here typing this, I’m up too late, and realize that I just don’t have the late night stamina I once did, but, I still love being up in the wee hours of the morning just after midnight as I always have.  My tootsies are a little achy after walking in high heels 6 blocks today for lunch.  But, I can remember my toes cramping all day after dancing all night in my 20’s. Human Touch for Optimum Well-being

Massage in Frankfurt, Germany

For the last several weeks, I’ve been dealing with very stressful issues at work.  It’s begun to manifest in my body through stiffness, as well as neck and shoulder pain.  So, I decided it was time to get a massage.  I called, and they were completely booked.  That was a bit irritating, because the day I called, I really wanted to get the massage that day.  But, they had an opening for the next afternoon, so I took that appointment.  Less than an hour later, though, they called to tell me they’d had a cancellation, and the appointment time fit perfectly into my day.  That small thing told me I was doing the right thing about getting the massage!  But it wasn’t just the massage I was needing. The Bat and Dragonfly

A Dragonfly.

About a week ago, as I walked through a short hallway in the parking garage to enter the building, I found a small brown bat laying on the floor.  I thought at first it might be dead, but when I gently nudged it, Read the rest of this entry ?

Running for My Life

July 18, 2011

Running for your life tends to make you appreciate being alive. Last weekend, my sister, brother, Carolee, some friends and I went to New Orleans for San Fermin in Nueva Orleans and the Encierro aka the Running of the Bulls. The weekend proved to be more intense than I planned for but ultimately an experience I won’t forget.

Sometimes the Universe Pushes You

Sometimes the Universe pushes you, screaming and clawing at the door frame, right on through a new door.

A little over five years ago, I wanted out of the career I had started, oddly enough, Read the rest of this entry ?

Stress

Stress

I woke up Sunday night with my stomach cramping and hurting.  An antacid calmed it down a bit, but, all day Monday it was that way, and then Monday night it happened again.  No other symptoms, no fever, no nausea, nothing else – just my stomach cramping and hurting.  By Wednesday, I finally realized Read the rest of this entry ?
