I had two conversations on Sunday with two different people about the same thing. I didn’t bring either conversation up. But, there was a lesson in there, because I suffer from the same thing. Read the rest of this entry ?

New Messages in Music
May 12, 2011Music has always played a part in my life, and I doubt seriously that will ever change. I’m not one of those folks stuck in a particular era of music either. My tastes are quite eclectic. Of late I’ve come to truly appreciate Lady Gaga, and Pink is fast becoming a favorite. Why? Read the rest of this entry ?

Inspiration through Automatic Writing
March 7, 2011One of the most powerful tools I use for inspired writing is the practice of automatic writing, which is called different names by different authors. Natalie Goldberg calls it “First Thoughts” in her book Writing Down the Bones, Julia Cameron includes it as a basic tool called “Morning Pages” in The Artist’s Way, and Henriette Anne Klauser teaches how to use it to get unstuck by “Writing Through to Resolution” in Write It Down, Make It Happen. Be Kind to Yourself
February 21, 2011
I’m so mad at myself. Have you ever said that? Or maybe you’ve said, “I’m so disappointed in myself.” This afternoon I had those thoughts and voiced them out loud. I tried to talk myself into changing the thoughts but all I could do is go over the list of disappointments about my day.
The day started fine but the outcome of procrastination created a domino effect. I had misplaced an envelope and something told me to find it and that’s when I noticed the deadline for a report was today! Why had I not even opened it when I first got it? That was the first self-inflicted criticism. Then I wondered if it was worth doing because I would have to get it to the post office by a certain time. And I really needed to go by the post office today anyway. Why hadn’t I just stopped there on my way back from a meeting this morning? I was indulging in more internal recrimination. Love Surrounds Me
February 10, 2011
For Valentines Day, I am celebrating and appreciating all the love in my life, which first and foremost comes from within. I am grateful my mom taught me to love myself before expecting anyone else to love me (other than her and my family). My mom and grandmother showed me how to love unconditionally, and I am eternally grateful for growing up with so much incredibly wonderful love in my life.
I treasure my family and close friendships more and more as I grow older – I can’t imagine life without their love and support and sharing my journey with them. I am excited to be celebrating romantic love in my life this year, while appreciating my family and close friends’ love for being truly eternal. Read the rest of this entry ?

Giving Leads to Abundance
February 5, 2011
This is a lesson that I’ve been learning for several years now, and every time I think I’ve completely learned it, something happens that shows me one more time that abundance comes from and in unexpected ways. Read the rest of this entry ?

I love myself, therefore
February 3, 2011One of my favorite Louise Hay exercises is to complete this sentence as many time as possible: “I love myself, therefore…” I especially like to do this one when I’m feeling down to give me some ideas about how I can pick myself up. It is also a helpful exercise when developing goals or recommitting to your self-care practices. Here are some of mine…
I love myself, therefore I get plenty of rest.
I love myself, therefore I treat myself to massages.
I love myself, therefore I eat nourishing food and take my vitamins.
I love myself, therefore I move my body and stay active.
I love myself, therefore I take breaks often to rest my mind and body and nurture my spirit.
I love myself, therefore I share my love with everyone else.
I love myself, therefore I strive for peace and harmony.
I love myself, therefore I do work that I love and have more fun.
What actions can you take to love yourself more? As we love and nurture ourselves, I believe we affect all the people around us in positive ways and contribute to healing the world.

Unconditional Love is the Greatest Gift
January 21, 2011A beloved aunt is having serious health issues and I’ve been at the hospital several times this week to help with her care. She is physically weaker and having short-term memory problems but her spirit is strong. She has always been a grateful, positive patient through the health problems that have increased as she ages. I hope I can deal with any serious heath issues with such grace and kindness to caretakers. I’ve seen other people be rude and angry to people who are just trying to help them and I can’t help but think that it impedes healing.
One night while quietly sitting with her, I contemplated my own health and started a checklist for healthy mind, body and spirit. Read the rest of this entry ?

Prioritizing Rest and Relaxation
December 7, 2010This weekend Rebecca and I escaped for a couple of days to the beach in Biloxi. Living near the beach is one of the things that I love about living in south LA, from where I can be on the beach in just a couple of hours. Having a change of scenery away from the regular routine of my life was a great break for me.

What Does Success Mean to You?
December 2, 2010The question “what does success mean to you?” has been flowing through my mind since I listened to Maria Shriver’s interview on the latest Success CD several days ago. I’m always amazed at what information sinks in and sparks me to action of all the things that I listen to and read. After the question popped into my head several times, I decided to write some answers to the question for Read the rest of this entry ?
