Finding Your Own North Star by Martha Beck

Finding Your Own North Star: Claiming the Life You Were Meant to Live by Marth Beck

Rebecca’s Comments:
I love Martha Beck’s column in O magazine.  Then someone recommended this book at a time when I wanted to make some life adjustments and I’m glad I invested time in reading and working through it.  This is a handbook full of exercises to help you identify how you can reach your potential.  “Map Your Way to a More Joyful Life.”   I responded to her sense of humor, her personal sharing, all the examples from other people’s struggles and breakthroughs in the essays.  She gives you plenty of inspiration but by page 14 you are doing an exercise to gain greater insight into yourself.  This isn’t all talk and no action.  The last chapters deal with change and how to plan and work through the changes you want to implement now that you have a greater realization of where you’d like to go.  Managing change is critical in implementation and she gives some solid advice and tools to make positive improvements.  I gained so much insight into myself by working through this book and I’ll go back to it again, especially the change-mapping chapters.  If you want a roadmap or set of instructions to focus your efforts toward your ideal life, consider this book as a way to help you.
