The Shack by William P. Young
I recently read an incredibly book called, The Shack, by William P. Young. It’s about a man, Mack, who is going through one of the most horrible experiences a human will ever face, the loss of a child to serial killer. His pain has become a part of his life, an ever present “being” almost, it colors everything he does and thinks. It’s begun to deteriorate the rest of his family.
After a strange incident, he decides to go back to the scene of the crime, the place where they know his daughter was murdered. It’s there that he encounters the Trinity. The conversations that ensue are funny, serious and sad. The concepts are simple. When you read them first time, you think, “Yeah, that makes sense.” And then the depth hits you. The complexity confounds you. And the message will free you if you let it.
I’m in the process of going back through the book and underlining parts of it that strike a cord deep inside me. It’s a message that will shake many people all the way to their religious core. But it is a message we as a world, a society, and a people need to grasp more than ever. I strongly recommend this book.
