I am in Washington DC attending the Center for Mind Body Medicine’s Advanced Training. I realized yesterday at lunch that I desire to practice mindful eating more often. The realization came to me as we were beginning lunch when the facilitator invited us to offer gratitude for the meal we were about to eat, and I had already gobbled down half my plate. I wondered in that moment why in the world I eat so fast. It has been a way of life for me as long as I remember, and I don’t enjoy almost always being the first one finished with a meal. Celebrate Life Every Day
January 17, 2012
I was reminded last week how critical it is to celebrate life every day and to show appreciation for all the wonderful people, places, and things we are blessed to experience in our lives. The reminder came when I attended the funeral of my cousin, Amy, who died of unknown causes suddenly last week. Amy was 39 years old, 7 years younger than me and way too young to die. I wasn’t close to Amy as an adult; however, we spent many holidays together at our grandparents’ house while we were growing up. Read the rest of this entry ?

My Favorite Holiday
November 24, 2011I am excited my favorite holiday has arrived! I have always loved Thanksgiving because it celebrates gratitude and family gatherings, it falls on the same day of the week every year giving me four days away from work without question, and it doesn’t include the consumer craze of Christmas. There are no expectations of things getting accomplished the next few days except eating, relaxing, enjoying time with family, watching football, and shopping. I don’t typically participate in the Thanksgiving weekend shopping frenzy; however, I was excited to hear that American Express is promoting shopping at small businesses on Saturday so I will likely participate in that since supporting local businesses is my preference. Experiencing Amazing Flow of Life
November 13, 2011Yesterday I experienced an amazing day with my adventures turning out more incredible than I could have imagined. I spent the morning in New Orleans with an inspector at the house I am buying, and the inspection went really well. I confirmed that the house is solid and in wonderful condition, which is a real treat to learn about an 80-year old house. The inspector was the perfect guy for the job. He explained everything I had questions about, and I learned lots of information from him about the history of that kind of house and about the neighborhood. I was exuberant when we left the inspection because I had a deep sense of knowing that this was the right house for me. Read the rest of this entry ?

Friday night I spent the evening visiting a childhood friend whose husband is battling throat cancer. He has completed 35 radiation treatments, in addition to chemotherapy. For each radiation treatment, he had to Read the rest of this entry ?

The Park Supports My Well-being
September 10, 2011
As I sit eating lunch in the park near my office, I am grateful for all the experiences I’ve had here and that this place holds so many memories. I used to live near here and take walks through the neighborhood, which is how I first learned about the park. Once I discovered it, I started coming here for calls with my first coach Cookie because it was a close place to escape from my office.

Optimum Well-Being in the Moment
July 16, 2011
Living in the present moment and practicing gratitude significantly contribute to my optimum well-being. In any given moment I can go within and focus on all the wonderful aspects of my world. This simple practice grounds me and shifts me from overwhelm, disappointment or frustration very quickly. When I focus my attention in a more positive direction, new possibilities emerge to the issue I am dealing with that I couldn’t see before. Read the rest of this entry ?

Music Recharges My Spirit
April 30, 2011
Enjoying live music is one of my favorite ways to recharge my spirit and there’s no better place to do that than the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Rebeeca and I enjoyed a fabulous day at the Fest today under blue skies with just enough clouds and a wonderful breeze to make it a perfect day in south Louisiana!
The photo is from our vantage point in front of the Gentilly Stage where we enjoyed Amos Lee who is one my favorite songwriters. I have listened to Amos’ CD many times, so it was a real treat to see him live. He said that playing the Fest was one of his dreams, which made it even more special to share my day with him. Promises, Sacrifice, Blessings
April 21, 2011Frankly, with Easter occurring so late this year, it has sneaked up on me. How could I forget with reminders of chocolate eggs, baskets and bunnies in all the stores? But, I’m reflecting deeper than my taste buds and tummy. Easter brings the themes of promise, sacrifice and blessings and these themes have been on my mind for the past few weeks regarding family, work and taking good care of myself.

Love Surrounds Me
February 10, 2011
For Valentines Day, I am celebrating and appreciating all the love in my life, which first and foremost comes from within. I am grateful my mom taught me to love myself before expecting anyone else to love me (other than her and my family). My mom and grandmother showed me how to love unconditionally, and I am eternally grateful for growing up with so much incredibly wonderful love in my life.
I treasure my family and close friendships more and more as I grow older – I can’t imagine life without their love and support and sharing my journey with them. I am excited to be celebrating romantic love in my life this year, while appreciating my family and close friends’ love for being truly eternal. Read the rest of this entry ?
