A friend of mine from church passed away this week. When I heard Bill had been moved to hospice early this week, I was surprised because I didn’t know he was having serious health issues. My thoughts about his situation led me to think about my own mortality and how we really never know when our time to pass will come, and that’s when I decided that I desire to have more fun in my life and spend less time working. Honor Your Influences
November 25, 2010Autumn is a time of harvest and reaping the bounty that life offers. It’s a good time to honor our ancestors and acknowledge the bounty in our lives that is linked to all the things we’ve done and the people before us.
Gay Hendricks talks about honoring our influences in the November 27 reading from A Year of Living Consciously: 365 Daily Inspirations for Creating a Life of Passion and Purpose. He recommends beginning with silent appreciation then, if possible, expressing that appreciation to people. Read the rest of this entry ?

Detaching from the Outcome
September 16, 2010“Commit to the process, detach from the outcome.” –From the Baghavad Gita. I’ve been thinking about how to adopt this attitude. If you search on this topic you’ll see lots of interesting discussion about it. I like Michael Prescott’s blog post about detaching from the outcome.
My experience volunteering with the Peace Corps in my 30s was an example of being focused on the outcome. Honestly, I didn’t realize at the time that I had an outcome in mind. I went to the assignment wanting to help others but I had already decided how I should help, whether or not that’s what was possible at that time and place. Read the rest of this entry ?

Peace Corps Adventure Gave Me Knowledge, Value of Compassion
September 9, 2010
About this time eight years ago, I was preparing to leave for the Peace Corps. I had no doubt it would be a big adventure and for many reasons it’s on my mind now.
Most of my friends, family and acquaintances were excited about my choice and did not know anyone who had been a Peace Corps volunteer. But everyone had an idea about the mystique of it. Read the rest of this entry ?

Fun Family Adventures
September 7, 2010
I enjoyed visiting with my cousin Brandi and her daughter Cheyenne over the long holiday weekend. They arrived Friday evening from Santa Fe, TX to visit me and Mom. I love having three generations together of fabulous women from my grandmother Jane, who we all called Meme. She is always in our thoughts and conversation when we are together. Saturday morning I surprised everyone by making chocolate gravy and biscuits for breakfast, which is one of the meals Meme cooked for us often. My brother commented that the gravy could use a touch more flour to be just like Meme’s, and we all reminisced about how much we loved her chocolate gravy. Read the rest of this entry ?

Writing in Nature Nurtures My Soul
August 31, 2010
I feel wonderful sitting outside by the water in this fabulous place. The breeze makes the leaves shimmer and the bright pink flower bunches sway at the top of the trees. The wind chimes ring every so often and the water flows briskly from the fountain. The only disturbance of an otherwise pristine morning is the wasp that got into my screened porch, but I decide that it too is part of my perfectly glorious morning. I desire to savor every moment like this in my life, and I realize writing helps me do that. Read the rest of this entry ?

Doing What I Love!
August 24, 2010
During the full-day Heal Your Life® Workshop I led Saturday at The Red Shoes (www.theredshoes.org), I was overcome with the feeling that I was in exactly the right place, doing what I am supposed to be doing. As I spent my day with fourteen beautiful people eager to learn and understand more about themselves and how to live a happier, more fulfilling life, I knew I was spending my day in the best possible way. I am tremendously grateful for each person sharing their spirit with the group, and for The Red Shoes offering us the opportunity to come together in their tranquil space.
I fondly remember having the same deep knowing of being on the right path at other times Read the rest of this entry ?

New Love Adventure
August 17, 2010
I am in the midst of a fabulous new love adventure with a wonderful man. I awakened yesterday morning feeling fortunate and grateful that we found each other, and this morning I decided that I desire to truly savor every moment of this adventure.
Creating a loving, supportive relationship with a wonderful man is on the top of my list of intentions for this year. I have put a lot of energy into a more focused search since last October, and needless to say that entailed kissing a few frogs. Read the rest of this entry ?

Magic Eyes (Guest Post)
August 9, 2010
The magic of Mardi Gras in Louisiana brings not only beads and trinkets but out-of-state visitors, too. My 30-plus-year-old son, John, and his friend, Doug, arrived from Texas just in time for the Spanish Town parade in Baton Rouge. Dressed in blue ponchos, standing in the rain, we looked like giant blueberry people from Willy Wonka. As the floats passed by, we dove and stretched for trinkets. It’s amazing how a set of plastic beads is transformed at that time of year into something so prize-worthy. Read the rest of this entry ?

Do what you love, love what you’re doing
June 3, 2010
I love my iPhone. When it recently fell in water, I had to go without it while it ”dried” in a bag of rice. After 16 hours, it worked fine as if nothing happened because not much water had seeped in. I fell in love with my iPhone all over again. I appreciate how well-crafted it is. I love how easy it is to use and how much I can accomplish on this mini-computer lovingly held in my hand much of the day.
A few days after my iPhone mishap, someone shared a link to Steve Jobs’ speech to Read the rest of this entry ?
