Access Your Intuition with Drawings

February 18, 2012

One of my favorite mind-body skills is drawings. I have had so much fun learning and practicing this skill. I wrote about my first experience with drawings last summer when I attended The Gulf Coast Community Day sponsored by the Mind-Center of Louisiana. I have treasured the drawing I did that day and keep it in the plastic cover of my binder from the first training I attended in October. The drawing (shown in the photo) inspires me every time I look at it. Read the rest of this entry ?

Practicing Mindful Eating

January 28, 2012

I am in Washington DC attending the Center for Mind Body Medicine’s Advanced Training. I realized yesterday at lunch that I desire to practice mindful eating more often.  The realization came to me as we were beginning lunch when the facilitator invited us to offer gratitude for the meal we were about to eat, and I had already gobbled down half my plate.  I wondered in that moment why in the world I eat so fast. It has been a way of life for me as long as I remember, and I don’t enjoy almost always being the first one finished with a meal.  Read the rest of this entry ?

Pay Attention to Your Words

January 21, 2012

I attended an interesting workshop at the Baton Rouge Unity Church a few weeks ago about Effective Communication facilitated by Charles Frost.  I was surprised to learn about his belief that “Why” may be the most damaging word in the English language. Charles explained that the word “Why” often puts people on the defensive because of negative experiences they had as children. For example, they may have been asked “why did you do that?” Or they may have received responses to “why” questions like “because I said so.” He suggested replacing “Why” with “How is it possible”. Celebrate Life Every Day

January 17, 2012

I was reminded last week how critical it is to celebrate life every day and to show appreciation for all the wonderful people, places, and things we are blessed to experience in our lives. The reminder came when I attended the funeral of my cousin, Amy, who died of unknown causes suddenly last week. Amy was 39 years old, 7 years younger than me and way too young to die. I wasn’t close to Amy as an adult; however, we spent many holidays together at our grandparents’ house while we were growing up. Read the rest of this entry ?

Finding Success in Failure Club

January 16, 2012

“Go after the things you’ve dreamed of but were afraid to try.” –Morgan Spurlock describing the purpose of “Failure Club.”  (Spurlock made the documentary “Super Size Me.” )

Failure Club on Yahoo’s Yscreen  follows seven people as they move toward fulfilling long-held dreams over the course of a year. The goal of Failure Club is to strip away the notion that failure is wrong.  Phillip Kirakofe, creator of Failure Club, coaches people through their fear of failure and helps them identify what is stopping them. “Success is what people settle for when they are afraid to fail at something that is truly life defining,” Kirakofe says. Treasure Your Desires into the New Year

December 31, 2011

As 2012 dawns, I wish for everyone to experience more abundance, peace, love, and joy every day. I hope prosperity and peace increase for you individually, collectively through your communities, and around the world. I desire for us all to contribute more and more to making the world a better place by first creating our own inner peace, which will flow outward to everyone around us.

I was intrigued to recently learn two variations of the new year’s practice of releasing those things you desire to let go of and choosing what to bring forward into the new year. The details are different, but each variation focuses on identifying what’s working and what’s not working in your life so you can consciously create a new year filled with more joy.  I prefer this practice to simply making resolutions because I believe letting go creates the space for new possibilities and opportunities, and focusing on our intentions is the first step to bringing what we desire into our lives.  Read the rest of this entry ?

My Favorite Holiday

November 24, 2011

View of Park from My New House

I am excited my favorite holiday has arrived! I have always loved Thanksgiving because it celebrates gratitude and family gatherings, it falls on the same day of the week every year giving me four days away from work without question, and it doesn’t include the consumer craze of Christmas. There are no expectations of things getting accomplished the next few days except eating, relaxing, enjoying time with family, watching football, and shopping. I don’t typically participate in the Thanksgiving weekend shopping frenzy; however, I was excited to hear that American Express is promoting shopping at small businesses on Saturday so I will likely participate in that since supporting local businesses is my preference. Experiencing Amazing Flow of Life

November 13, 2011

Rebecca, Carolee, and Collette in the Club Level at Tiger Stadium

Yesterday I experienced an amazing day with my adventures turning out more incredible than I could have imagined. I spent the morning in New Orleans with an inspector at the house I am buying, and the inspection went really well. I confirmed that the house is solid and in wonderful condition, which is a real treat to learn about an 80-year old house. The inspector was the perfect guy for the job. He explained everything I had questions about, and I learned lots of information from him about the history of that kind of house and about the neighborhood. I was exuberant when we left the inspection because I had a deep sense of knowing that this was the right house for me.  Read the rest of this entry ?

The Gift of Friendship

October 22, 2011

My mom has a friend visiting who she hasn’t seen in about 20 years. Deborah’s visit is a beautiful gift for my mom, and I am incredibly grateful she has come to visit. My mom has wondered about her many times since they lost contact several years ago. They were friends when Deborah lived in New Orleans, and stayed in touch for a while when she moved back to Australia. Read the rest of this entry ?
