Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Eyes

October 28, 2010

You Are
In the Right Place,
At the Right Time,
Doing the Right Thing,
With the Right People,
For the Right Reason,
Everything is Perfect.
You Can Have the Right Results!
All you need is a Right Heart & Mind…
an Open Heart & Mind.
& remember to keep your Eyes Open too!”

- Anon

I’ve seen this quote or something similar before and was happy to see this in yesterday’s email from The Daily Love. Mastin Kipp sends out a daily email with quotes, affirmations and inspirational comments and I found The Daily Love from a retweet by someone else supporting others in a positive way.

What touched me was the reminder to be open to what is happening now, feel the happiness and see the learning opportunities. I am grateful for positive inspiration from many sources and knowing there are so many people who seek to inspire and support others.

What Can I Learn From This?

October 14, 2010

Curiosity drives me. It’s why I like reading books, hearing people’s stories, travelling to new places, taking new professional directions. Those are enjoyable adventures but what about when I encounter challenge and disappointment? I remind myself to learn and be curious even though I may want to run from defeat and forget it quickly. When do I brush something off and when do I need to take a look at what it teaches? Questioning what there is to learn is helpful in understanding the experience, being present and managing my attitude.

I can apply the question to both success and failure. Gay Hendricks in A Year of Living Consciously: 365 Daily Inspirations for Creating a Life of Passion and Purpose advises, “What makes the journey smooth and fast is to greet each barrier (or each win) with a bow and an inquiry into what you can learn from it.” Read the rest of this entry ?

Detaching from the Outcome

September 16, 2010

“Commit to the process, detach from the outcome.” –From the Baghavad Gita. I’ve been thinking about how to adopt this attitude. If you search on this topic you’ll see lots of interesting discussion about it. I like Michael Prescott’s blog post about detaching from the outcome.

My experience volunteering with the Peace Corps in my 30s was an example of being focused on the outcome. Honestly, I didn’t realize at the time that I had an outcome in mind. I went to the assignment wanting to help others but I had already decided how I should help, whether or not that’s what was possible at that time and place. Read the rest of this entry ?

How do you spend your time?

September 2, 2010

How would you measure the time you spend on things with A) a sense of urgency and B) a sense of importance?

Here’s another question for you to ponder: Do the different areas of your life reflect a perfect, balanced life? Consider these areas: career, relationships (family & friends), environment (your home and neighborhood), finances, individuality, and spirituality. Read the rest of this entry ?

Living in Integrity

July 29, 2010

In A Year of Living Consciously: 365 Daily Inspirations for Creating a Life of Passion and Purpose Gay Hendricks talks about integrity not as a moral issue but a matter of physics. When something mechanical is wobbling, it’s out of integrity. He advises approaching integrity as a matter of wholeness, harmony and connection. When something is not working well in life, integrity is the first place to look and feeling is where we can go out of integrity personally.

Stop Judging Your Thoughts

July 22, 2010

Yesterday I was sick and stayed in bed most of the day. I’ve never experienced a reaction to allergies as strongly as I have these past few days. The runny nose, the froggy throat, the sneezing. I was on day two of taking stronger medicine and it was barely containing it. Today I feel much better after extra rest, more fluids and time for the medication to work.

But here’s what I’m noticing about yesterday. I felt too physically ill to judge my thoughts. I actually took a break from thinking. I didn’t read anything, I didn’t Read the rest of this entry ?

A Purpose in the Chain of Life

June 24, 2010

I’m on a natural high this week because a project I’m working on has exceeded expectations. The training course had a terrific instructor, a full class, and engaged trainees. We had the right team of people working together to educate people who really wanted to learn something new. The project is a different approach to a problem that others have tried to fix or ignored. As we developed the project, including this training, I kept telling myself: Trust that the right things will happen and the right people will emerge to help. Read the rest of this entry ?

Do what you love, love what you’re doing

June 3, 2010

I love my iPhone.  When it recently fell in water, I had to go without it while it ”dried” in a bag of rice.  After 16 hours, it worked fine as if nothing happened because not much water had seeped in.  I fell in love with my iPhone all over again.  I appreciate how well-crafted it is. I love how easy it is to use and how much I can accomplish on this mini-computer lovingly held in my hand much of the day.

A few days after my iPhone mishap, someone shared a link to Steve Jobs’ speech to Read the rest of this entry ?

Stop Pretending and Heal Your Life

May 25, 2010

I love Gay Hendricks’ words in A Year of Living Consciously for May 16: “The moment you stop pretending, your healing begins.” This perspective supports my belief that when we live the life we think we “should” or try to

Gratitude for Good Health

May 22, 2010

Today I visited a friend in the hospital.  She had always been the picture of health, eats more organically and far better than I’ve ever even considered.  But, about a week ago, what they are currently calling a stroke took her down.  Read the rest of this entry ?
