I started working with a new coach last week to help me make more progress in areas of my life where I have become frustrated lately, predominately related to the slow pace of my career transition toward coaching and personal growth endeavors. One of the tools my coach described that he will use in our work together is inquiries, which he explained as a question he will raise that is not Read the rest of this entry ?

Inspiration through Automatic Writing
March 7, 2011One of the most powerful tools I use for inspired writing is the practice of automatic writing, which is called different names by different authors. Natalie Goldberg calls it “First Thoughts” in her book Writing Down the Bones, Julia Cameron includes it as a basic tool called “Morning Pages” in The Artist’s Way, and Henriette Anne Klauser teaches how to use it to get unstuck by “Writing Through to Resolution” in Write It Down, Make It Happen. I love myself, therefore
February 3, 2011One of my favorite Louise Hay exercises is to complete this sentence as many time as possible: “I love myself, therefore…” I especially like to do this one when I’m feeling down to give me some ideas about how I can pick myself up. It is also a helpful exercise when developing goals or recommitting to your self-care practices. Here are some of mine…
I love myself, therefore I get plenty of rest.
I love myself, therefore I treat myself to massages.
I love myself, therefore I eat nourishing food and take my vitamins.
I love myself, therefore I move my body and stay active.
I love myself, therefore I take breaks often to rest my mind and body and nurture my spirit.
I love myself, therefore I share my love with everyone else.
I love myself, therefore I strive for peace and harmony.
I love myself, therefore I do work that I love and have more fun.
What actions can you take to love yourself more? As we love and nurture ourselves, I believe we affect all the people around us in positive ways and contribute to healing the world.

New Theme: Inspired Writing
January 13, 2011
This quarter we plan to focus on the theme of inspired writing, which is one of the passions we share that led us to create this blog. Writing is one of my favorite spiritual practices – I experience a deep connection with my inner wisdom and with Universal Wisdom when I write. The profound discoveries and insights I receive from my writing fuel my desire to write on a routine basis, and I am grateful for having this blog to motivate me to write at least every week. My New Year Resolution is Recommitment
January 1, 2011
Earlier this year I wrote a post about recommiting to my life. For the new year, I’m not writing resolutions that seem like a task list. I’m starting with my current commitments and goals and looking at whether they still serve me well. Are these goals still relevant? What needs to change to reach the ones I still want to keep? What do I want to add?
Starting a new year deserves more reflection than just making two or three simple statements that seem disconnected. Read the rest of this entry ?

Prioritizing Rest and Relaxation
December 7, 2010This weekend Rebecca and I escaped for a couple of days to the beach in Biloxi. Living near the beach is one of the things that I love about living in south LA, from where I can be on the beach in just a couple of hours. Having a change of scenery away from the regular routine of my life was a great break for me.

Creating Equilibrium
October 19, 2010
The universe is like an ocean in perfect equilibrium. A wave cannot rise in one place, without creating a hollow elsewhere…. If you take from one place, you must give elsewhere. – Swami Vivekananda
This quote from my Zen page-a-day calendar eloquently illustrates how I have been feeling lately. The realization that I have too many commitments right now has been revealing itself to Read the rest of this entry ?

I Choose Daring Adventure
September 11, 2010I love this quote by Helen Keller! ” Scarcity is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”
I choose to live a daring adventure, and I desire to examine where I may be trying to avoid danger and where I see scarcity so I can shift my consciousness to remove these self-imposed limitations.

Writing in Nature Nurtures My Soul
August 31, 2010
I feel wonderful sitting outside by the water in this fabulous place. The breeze makes the leaves shimmer and the bright pink flower bunches sway at the top of the trees. The wind chimes ring every so often and the water flows briskly from the fountain. The only disturbance of an otherwise pristine morning is the wasp that got into my screened porch, but I decide that it too is part of my perfectly glorious morning. I desire to savor every moment like this in my life, and I realize writing helps me do that. Read the rest of this entry ?

Loving Life
August 10, 2010
One of the stories I share when I facilitate Heal Your Life workshops is how I remember thinking “I hate my life” on a daily basis about six years ago as I drove along the interstate between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. I commute sixty to eighty miles to visit client sites on a regular basis, and the record playing in my head then was far from happy and joyful. Thankfully, Read the rest of this entry ?
